Asia has become an investment hub over the past few years, as economic turmoil impacts Europe and the United States. Therefore, it is no real surprise that William Bollinger, one of the original hedge fund managers in the industry, has come out of retirement to launch his newest fund in Singapore.
Bollinger learned from the investor Julian Robertson, and established Egerton Capital , one of the first hedge funds to be launched in the UK, with John Armitage less than a decade ago. Now, it is among the most successful.
Egerton is now run by Armitage, though Bolliger is still counted as a minority partner. One of the biggest hedge funds in London, Egerton manages $5 billion for a choice group of investors. Though the fund did take a hit last year, it has one of the best long-term records in the world’s hedge fund industry with an average yearly return of 15% since its inception.
Egerton is known to have greatly influenced investment in Europe, as a pioneer of equity long/short investing in the region.
