Bruce Karsh, the co-founder of Oaktree Capital Management, hedge fund firm and asset manager, recently donated $50 million to Duke University in support of undergraduate scholarships. The firm, which is based in Los Angeles, has more than $83 billion in assets currently under management.

According to the university’s website, the Duke alumnus and his wife’s contribution is the largest financial aid received in the history of the school. $30 million of the $50 million total will be put towards scholarships for U.S. students, and the remaining $20 million will support international applicants. Today, more than half of Duke’s undergraduates receive a form of financial aid from the university.
