San Francisco is the city where the West Coast version of the annual Sohn Investment Conference took place, on October 16, 2019. In addition to showcasing up and coming Wall Street stars, the conference also highlights economic trends and ideas at the forefront of the financial services and investments industry.

The conference, which also is a fund raiser for the Sohn Conference Foundation, which supports the funding of medical research, was co-sponsored by CNBC.

One of the highlights of the conference each year is the Next Wave Sohn panel featuring hedge fund managers at the beginning of their rise to investment stardom. Each manager offers his or her best stock picks for the coming year. This year the panel included Stephen Perkins of Toronado Capital Management; Touk Sinantha of AltraVue Capital; Raj Venkatesan of Trinity Alps Capital Partners and Christopher Weldon of Stamina Capital.

Their stock picks were Blackline, a company that specializes in finance and accounting software for mid-size companies, was the top pick of the conference; Siga Technologies, a pharmaceutical company that focuses on anti-viral smallpox treatment; Afya, a Brazilian company that is engaged in medical education; and Adyen, a Netherlands-based payment processor company.
