Appaloosa Management is an employee-owned hedge fund established in 1993 by David Tepper and Jack Walton in New Jersey, USA.

Appaloosa Management runs four investment firms, including its offshore Palamino Fund LTD, two versions of the Thoroughbred fund, both offshore and onshore, and its leading fund, Appaloosa Investment.

The firm invests in both public equity and fixed income markets across the globe. Appaloosa focuses mainly on “equities and debt of distressed companies, bonds, exchange warrants, options, futures, notes and junk bonds,” catering especially to high net worth individuals.

Appaloosa also provides services to banking institutions, investment firms, pension plans, joint investment vehicles, philanthropic groups, businesses, foreign government entities and many others. The firm’s primary strategy is an event-driven investment plan.

Last year, the firm was granted the Institutional Hedge Fund Firm of the Year 2011 award.
